Working with Siblings
A certain amount of sibling competition and arguing is a normal and healthy part of growing up in a family.  Children learn to share, make friends and be themselves through relationships with siblings.
Trouble arises when sibling rivalry frequently leads to big conflicts and when jealousy gets in the way of getting along.  Sibling or family therapy can
help when fighting becomes too much and too disruptive.
We want children to operate from a perspective that there are more than enough resources for everyone, not to operate from a place of scarcity.  Children who cannot accept sharing their parents or space with siblings can become overwhelmed by envy.  This lesson is often one learned in childhood and carried through life.
I encourage parents to read Siblings Without Rivalry as a starting point when concerned about sibling issues.
Counseling that includes parent coaching and family therapy can help.
